A scalp massage is an easy technique used to reduce stress. The regular practice of this massage can benefit not only the scalp, but bring a feeling of serenity to the whole body. Plus the integration of botanical oils with scalp massage can result in a strong and silky hair.

Botanical Oil

A good time to practice a scalp massage is before taking a bath or a shower. This way any excess oil can be wash off and get a conditioner treatment at the same time. Use ten to twenty drops of any preferred botanical oil or create your own by selecting one of the following essential oils and combine it with a base oil. Jojoba oil is good to use on the scalp, because it is much alike the sebum our body produces. Chamomile can be used for blonde hair, rosemary for brunettes, and ylang-ylang for red hair.

Scalp Massage Technique

Once you have the correct oil for your hair, rub a few drops between your hands to heat, before applying it to the scalp and hair. Using soft strokes, start applying the massage oil to your hair strands starting at the bottom and going up towards your scalp. Then place your hands at your forehead and start massaging, using circular strokes, at the hair line and continue until you get to the back of the head.

Some of the techniques are soft to medium pressure finger pressing, circular strokes, combing strokes with your hands and fingers and medium to small hands-palm strokes. The use of gentle and a constant pattern of rhythm for the massage can create a relaxing experience for the whole body. The breathing will start to become deeper and refreshing at the same time.

Creating a SPA Experience

If the scalp massage is done at bath time, enjoy for a few minutes the bliss feeling result from the massage and let the essential oils penetrate into hair and scalp. The result will be shinier and stronger hair. After a couple of minutes, use a gentle shampoo to clean any excess oil. Let the hair naturally dry for better results.

The use of chemicals, styling products and tools, the bleach from the pool, UV rays, and pollution are a constant battle for the hair. All of this can result in a dry and lifeless hair. The hair, like us, needs a detoxification from time to time to recharge and feel healthier. A scalp massage can become a pleasant solution for unmanageable hair.
